Bar chart of the cumulative count of New Mexico saltwater disposal wells by first year of injection through 2025, with a projection to about 1,660 wells in 2035

How are wells counted?

A well is counted once it reports injecting water for the first time.

How fast is the count growing?

Over the long run, about 31 new wells a year, based on a straight line fit that matches closely (R squared of 0.990).

Are new wells still being added at that pace?

No. New first time wells have slowed sharply since 2020, with just 4 in 2025. The 2035 projection of about 1,660 wells reflects the long run trend, not the recent pace.

Why does it matter to operators?

Water volumes keep rising while new wells slow down, so each existing well and each tank battery feeding it is carrying more load.

What can you control at the tank?

Oil floating on top of the water in your tanks still leaves on a vacuum truck, and that costs you money every haul. The Freedom Tool skims that oil off inside the tank, captures richer vapors, and cuts down on vacuum truck trips. It has no moving parts. Contact us to see if it fits your site.
